A man who rammed another man’s head into a fence eight times told police he gave the victim “a bit of a friggen (sic) slap around”.

Adin Gordon Tambovsoff, 29, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on August 12 to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Tambovsoff attended the victim’s unit at 11.20pm on December 11, 2021, with others.

He said Tambovsoff walked to the victim, who was near the front door, and grabbed him by the throat, with the victim unable to breath for a few seconds.

Sergeant Ongheen said Tambovsoff then pushed the victim into a glass panelled door with the back of his head hitting the door with force and causing immediate pain.

He said the defendant let go of the victim and left the address.

“A short time later, the defendant has approached the back of the victim’s unit, has called out to the victim stating he would jump the back fence and pull the victim outside,” Sergeant Ongheen said.

“The victim was afraid the defendant would damage his back door so he went to speak with the defendant.

“While in the courtyard at the back of the unit complex, the defendant has again grabbed the victim by the throat.”

He said Tambovsoff directed the victim to the wooden fence where he then released his grip on the victim’s throat and grabbed the back of his head.

Sergeant Ongheen said the defendant then rammed the victim’s head into the fence about eight times.

“The victim could hear the defendant’s partner yelling at the defendant to stop,” he said.

Sergeant Ongheen said Tambovsoff let go of the victim and left.

He said police attended the scene about 11.30pm and located Tambovsoff a short time later in another unit.

“The defendant did state to police he ‘gave him a bit of a friggen (sic) slap around’ and that he didn’t really hurt him,” Sergeant Ongheen said.

He said Tambovsoff also told police “he shouldn’t have lashed out, but he learned a lesson at the end of the day”.

Sergeant Ongheen said the victim sustained a lump on his head which hurt for a few hours.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Tambovsoff had “been passed around” between family members when he was a child and was a victim of child abuse.

She said he has been diagnosed in the past with Bipolar Disorder, Split Personality Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder.

Ms Legrady said Tambovsoff received the Disability Support Pension but was able to work somewhat.

She said he has been in a relationship with his partner for a year, had a step child and the couple were expecting their first child in November.

Magistrate Cameron Press said Tambovsoff’s actions against the 19-year-old victim were very concerning.

He sentenced Tambovsoff to six months prison, wholly suspended and operational for 18 months.
