Inmate hospitalised following second alleged assault at Capricornia Correctional Centre, near Rockhampton, day after fellow prisoner dies

NEW: More details have emerged following a second alleged assault at Central Qld’s major prison which happened just 24 hours after an inmate died in hospital after being attacked.

Fresh details have emerged after another Central Queensland inmate was hospitalised following a brawl among prisoners the day after a fellow inmate died of injuries sustained in an alleged assault.

Paramedics were sent back to a major Central Queensland prison to attend to an assault victim just one day after an inmate was pronounced dead following an alleged bashing.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics responded to an incident at the Capricornia Correctional Centre on Monday afternoon following an alleged assault against another inmate.

Paramedic crews responded to the facility about 4pm and first received a call for assistance about 3.45pm.

It happened less than 24 hours after a 31-year-old man, who was an inmate at the facility, was pronounced dead after succumbing to serious head injuries in a separate alleged assault.

Crews remained on scene about 4.50pm.

A Queensland Police spokesman said there were no officers sent to the facility.

The prisoner returned back to the centre later Monday after getting medical treatment.

A Queensland Corrective Services’ (QCS) spokesperson said no officers were injured, and all prisoners have been accounted for.

The Corrective Services Investigation Unit and Queensland Police Service are aware of the incident.
