THE ROCKHAMPTON owner of two dogs which viciously attacked a woman last year will, on Monday, appeal the seizure of one of the dogs by Rockhampton Regional Council.
Martin John Wheeler’s pets attacked Shirley Roberts on Horton Street, North Rockhampton, on September 2, 2009.
She received severe injuries which required surgery and she had to have 60 stainless steel clips inserted and 20 stitches to patch up her wounds.
On September 16 this year, Mr Wheeler was convicted in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court of three offences of failing to ensure his dogs did not attack.
He was fined $5000.
The Morning Bulletin would like to clarify that only one of the dogs involved in the attack was put down by the council – not two as reported in yesterday’s edition.
The other dog, Tara, remains in the council’s pound.
Its seizure is the subject of the appeal by Mr Wheeler to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Tara was one of the dogs that was found to have caused Mrs Roberts’ grievous bodily harm.
