It has stood on the corner of a major Rockhampton intersection for decades, but now a lovely Queenslander thousands of motorists drove past every day has found a new home nearly 800km away.
The home, which once stood at the corner Albert and George streets on the city’s southside, has been relocated to make way for a major development.
Cocobrew Express is being built by local builders Kele Property Group on the corner of Albert and George Streets, currently part of the Bruce Highway route.
The house at 40 Albert Street has been sold and will be transported to Byron Bay to be completely renovated. Two other homes at the site were demolished.
Cocobrew owner Robin Adams said the new drive-through planned for the site would serve coffee, brekky wraps, muffins, salad rolls, and other takeaway food.
“It’s a great location, a lot of traffic, a lot of industry up that way, a lot of hospitals, schools, easy access,” he said.
Mr Adams said locals would be able to get a coffee fix and there’s a great market for drive-through coffee.
Cocobrew Express will employ about 10 new staff.
Mr Adams said the business would be ‘totally local’, with locally produced food, suppliers, staff and builders.
The opening date is yet to be decided however it’s anticipated Rocky locals can get their new drive-through coffee fix in late 2021 or early 2022.
Mr Adams thanked the community for the past 18 months of support and said he was looking forward to seeing more local customers.
