Emails should be sent to police@ministerial.qld.gov.au

EARLIER: THE FAMILY of murdered Rockhampton woman Lara Ashcroft are campaigning to have her recently released convicted killer Stephen Wayne Robson returned to prison.

On Monday, Robson, who killed Lara on April 7, 2001 by strangling and running over her on the Rockhampton to Yeppoon Rd, was released from the Capricornia Correctional Centre where he has spent the past 15 years as a high-security prisoner.

Lara's mum, who preferred not to be named, has written the following letter to Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath in a push to have Robson returned to prison.

Dear Minister,

I am the mother of Lara Ashcroft.

Lara is a victim of domestic violence. At the age of 23 years she was bashed then strangled and brutally murdered by Stephen Wayne Robson who left her for dead.

Stephen Wayne Robson has not finished his life sentence.

He had been granted parole I understand for his good behaviour in prison.

This is unacceptable.

It is my strong belief the parole board has not taken into consideration the impact his release would have on our families and for the people of Emerald and surrounding areas, the information showed itself when his release into that community became known on social media on Thursday, April 14.

I call on the Minister to intervene to revoke the parole of Stephen Wayne Robson and ensure he serves out his full sentence.

He has shown no remorse for his crime.

I am extremely concerned that under the protection of the parole board and privacy laws, young women in the community where he lives will not be warned of what he is capable of.

What do I have to do to protect other young women? March up and down the street with other mothers in order for our government to send a clear message to the perpetrators of domestic violence?

Life should mean life. That is the sentence we have been given.

Lara's mum urged any community members in Central Queensland, particularly the Central Highlands, who were concerned about Robson's release into the Emerald community to write to the Attorney General's office at attorney@ministerial.qld.gov.au.
