One person sadly died in a medical incident at a Bowen Basin mine site on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to BMA’s Goonyella Riverside mine near Moranbah about 1pm.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed crews remained on scene until late afternoon.
He said the incident involved a medical episode and police were not currently investigating.
A BMA spokesman said operations were put on hold at the mine and it is understood they restarted 24 hours later - about 1pm Tuesday.
“A team member had a medical emergency at Goonyella Riverside Mine on Monday 17 January,” the BMA spokesman said.
“Our onsite Emergency Response Team and the Queensland Ambulance Service responded, however despite their efforts our colleague sadly passed away.
“We stopped operations to take the time to provide appropriate support to our teams. We will progress towards restarting operations in a safe and respectful way.”
It is understood the worker’s next of kin was notified by police overnight.
Sadly, it is the second time the mine has been rocked by a medical death in the past six months.
On July 12, 2021, BMA Mining operations stopped at Goonyella Riverside after a man suffered a medical emergency at the site.
