Man in serious condition after rollover on Capricorn Highway, Comet

An 18-year-old is still in hospital after he suffered significant injuries from a single-vehicle rollover on the Capricorn Highway at the weekend. UPDATES.

The condition of an 18-year-old local man has improved slightly five days after his ute came off the highway and hit a tree.

He was flown from the scene of the serious crash early on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle rollover just after 3.30am on the Capricorn Highway, 26km out of Emerald, near the Comet township.

He was assessed by paramedics for significant leg and head injuries.

It is understood the man’s vehicle, a Toyota LandCruiser, left the road and hit a tree.

He was flown by RACQ Capricorn Rescue to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition.

The man, who remains in Rockhampton Hospital, was in a critical condition for a number of days, but was in a serious condition as of Thursday morning.

He remained in a serious condition on Friday.

It is understood he is from the Comet area.

The man was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The highway had to be closed, but was reopened at 7am.

Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

More than 4200 drivers were hospitalised in 2022 following crashes on Queensland roads.

Meanwhile, 11 people have died in vehicle and road accidents in the Rockhampton, Gladstone, Livingstone, Banana Shire and Central Highlands local government areas since January 25 of this year.

There have been more than 207 fatalities on roads statewide as of September 24 this year, according to Transport and Main Roads figures.
