The Bolte family from Mackay spent Tuesday morning admiring Rockhampton’s Riverside precinct before going out to the Heritage Village.

Parents Michelle and Michael haven’t been to Rockhampton since they moved from Middlemount years ago, and they were amazed at the changes.

“It’s amazing, it’s great,” Michael said of the riverside precinct, as he listened out for the iconic clickety-clack tiles.

“We hear the top of Mt Archer’s all new too so we’ll take the kids there after the Heritage Village.”

The family was only in town overnight, staying at the Quest Apartments, to meet a kelpie breeder from south of Rockhampton halfway.

The kids can’t wait to meet their new puppy.

“We got to stay on the tallest floor, on the sixth floor,” Callum said.

They didn’t have time to catch up with friends who lived locally but they said, having seen how much Rockhampton had changed, would return for an extended family holiday next time.

“We have a friend at Yeppoon who’s told us all about the lagoon,” Michael said.

“I think we’ll have to bring the kids back to try that out.”
