Rockhampton’s Kylie Drew discovered a love for baking while working in cafes, and now she’s turned that passion into her own business.

When Kylie Drew was working in cafes she discovered a love for baking, and now she’s turned that passion into her own business.

After a few months of finessing her cookie craft she left her job at a cafe, where she was doing most of the baking, to pursue her cookie business.

Ms Drew said she decided to focus on cookies when she found a cookie cutter online she really wanted to use.

“Once I made them I thought ‘this is fun’ and started looking into a bit more,” she said.

“I then realised how much you can do with them and how many different cutters, stamps and stuff you can find and I just fell in love with it.

“I just kept buying more and more, and making them and giving them away and eventually someone asked if I could make some for them.”

After posting pictures of some of her creations to Instagram, the orders took off.

Ms Drew said her favourite part about making the cookies was the decorating.

“There’s so much you can do and so many different designs … I like the retro designs, and I’ve done a few baby showers, so I like doing them,” she said.

Kylie said one of the most popular designs she’s been asked for has been the Pokemon set.

“I do a few orders a week and I also bake for the markets, so if I’m not too busy I’ll take my cookies to the markets and sell them.

“I haven’t really counted how many I’ve made, but it would be hundreds by now.”

Ms Drew said so far, the most popular cookies she’s been asked for have been the Pokemon sets she does.

She also shared her thoughts on why the cookie craze had become so popular at events such as parties and weddings.

“I think because you can personalise them, anything can be custom made and designed and you can put names on them,” she said.

“There’s so many cute cutters out there now, I think people don’t realise how decorated they can be.”

As well as the cookies, Ms Drew also makes cupcakes and mini cakes.
