The lawyer for a woman accused of murdering her husband says their client may not go to trial, if the Crown prosecutor accepts a submission.

Kerrie Lee Catling, 50, was charged with murder after her husband Chris Catling, 51, died in hospital, allegedly from a single stab wound from a knife to his chest sustained at the family home in North Rockhampton on March 22, 2021.

Ms Catling was charged in August 2021.

Her lawyer, Grant Cagney, provided an update on the case to the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on January 29.

He said he was working on a submission to send to the Crown that “could possibly resolve” the matter.

“I am trying to include relevant portions of evidence from the committal, and also statements, to assist (Crown) in considering the submission,” Mr Cagney said.

He requested an adjournment to allow that submission process to occur.

Justice Crow asked the parties to canvas a possible trial to run in either April or May this year if they could not reach an agreement.

Ms Catling’s murder indictment presentation took place in early December 2023.

The court has previously been told police received two triple-0 calls on the day of Mr Catling’s death, the first from a male, with a female voice heard in the background, before it was terminated.

Police found Mr Catling unresponsive in a lounge chair in the couple’s Norman Gardens home, with a knife on the ground near his right hand.

He had no defensive wounds, the court heard.

Ms Catling’s case was adjourned to February 15 and she was remanded in custody.
