Rockhampton is being urged to dig deep when Mater launches its inaugural 24-hour Giving Day to help deliver life-saving research, education and healthcare to the Central Queensland community.

Every dollar donated by the general public from today will be tripled, thanks to the generosity of a suite of Mater Foundation donors who have pledged to treble the community’s fundraising efforts.

Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton executive officer Sue Thurbon said funds raised would be invested in improving healthcare services and equipment in the local community.

“Mater Foundation has been incredibly generous to our hospital in Rockhampton over the years, contributing equipment such as neoprobes, palliative care chairs, Isolettes for pre-term babies requiring oxygen supplements and oncology chairs,” Ms Thurbon said.

“Giving Day is about coming together as a community to ensure Mater can continue to make good things happen for people in Rockhampton.”

Mater Foundation executive director Andrew Thomas said Mater had gained a reputation over the past century in Queensland for providing exceptional care to those who needed it most.

“Our incredible achievements are only possible because of the dedication and commitment of the people who work at Mater and give their all to help the community every day,” Mr Thomas said.

“Now, Mater Foundation is setting aside today for the whole community to give back to Mater so we can continue providing exceptional care.”
