Head on collision, Burnett Highway, truck vs car

The man is in a serious condition and has been taken to a Brisbane hospital

1.45pm: Dramatic photos have been captured by helicopter officers from the scene of the head on collision near Westwood on Monday morning.

It is believed the driver of the SUV, a local man in his 70s, veered onto the wrong side of the road and in front of the truck.

He sustained serious limb, head and internal injuries.

Emergency services worked quickly to free him from the vehicle through the rear and he was intubated on scene.

He was flown to Rockhampton Hospital by the Rescue300 crew in a serious but stable condition.

He has been since taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

12PM: A male driver involved in a serious crash near Westwood has been flown to Rockhampton Hospital and is expected to be flown to Brisbane as he sustained serious injuries.

It is understood hit the truck on the Capricorn Highway, just after 8.15am on Monday morning.

He was initially trapped in the vehicle and emergency services used the jaws of life to remove him.

He is believed to have suffered significant head injuries.

He was flown in the RACQ Capricorn Rescue in a critical condition to Rockhampton Hospital shortly after 10.30am.

The highway was blocked for some time.

9AM: The highway has now been closed as the helicopter is en route to a serious accident on the Capricorn Highway, near Westwood, on Monday morning.

The Capricorn Highway is closed on the southern end.

The driver of this vehicle has been reported as “slumped over the steering wheel”.

He is no longer trapped in the vehicle.

All emergency services are responding.

8.45AM: Emergency services rapidly responded to a serious head-on collision around half an hour west of Rockhampton.

The accident was reported at 8.20am on Monday morning on the Capricorn Highway, near the Leichhardt Highway intersection, 5km from Westwood.

It was reported a male occupant is trapped.

The trailer of the truck is empty.

Multiple crews responded and the helicopter has been placed on standby.

A helicopter landing zone has been set up.

The crash comes less than 24 hours after a fatal crash was reported on Razorback Road, Bouldercombe.

A 60 year-old Bouldercombe woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed her vehicle veered off the road and rolled.
