Tables and chairs have been removed from the eating area of Gloria Jeans near Big W at Stockland Rockhampton, in a sign that the national franchise is now closed for good.
The Gloria Jeans coffee shop had been dormant for a few weeks with no indication of what had prompted the closure.
In a statement to this publication, the company said the franchisee’s contract had finished and could not confirm if it would be renewed.
In 2017, Gloria Jeans announced it was opening a drive-thru coffee site on the corner of Bernard Street and Queensland Elizabeth Drive, on the now Rocky Auto Group site.
But the four-tenant retail precinct never got off the ground.
In other Stockland Rockhampton news, Bay Audio, a hearing specialist business, is opening a store in the centre.
IT service provider, King IT, is expected to open soon too, Stockland Rockhampton centre manager Elysia Billingham confirmed.
Price Attack is also looking to open a store in a “prime location” across from Big W at Stockland Rockhampton.
A franchise has been listed for sale on Seek Business with a lease length of five years.
Price Attack was established in 1984, has more than 60 stores nationally and is a full service hair salon with a retail side of professional hair and beauty products.
Stockland Rockhampton currently has four hair salons, Stefans, Kazza’s Barber Shop, Just Cuts and Hairhouse Warehouse.
Chatime, an international iced and bubble tea brand, is also looking for a franchise partner to open a shop at Stockland Rockhampton.
“We are massively successful thanks to our business model and fantastic franchise partners,” advertisement for the brand states.
“Better than your average coffee cafe, enquire today.
“Rockhampton has something for the whole family, home to Stockland Rockhampton, the largest regional shopping centre between Maroochydore and Mackay.
“All that’s missing is a Chatime to shake things up.”
