AARON Gary Cooke will spend half a year behind bars after police caught him cooking up speed for his friends.

AARON Gary Cooke will spend half a year behind bars after police caught him cooking up speed for his friends.

Police found the speed lab in his garage when they searched his Thompson Point home near Emu Park on January 3, 2008.

Cooke, 29, and three others, all drug addicts, were arrested.

He told police he was planning to make five grams of speed, which would provide about 50 hits of the drug and have a street value of about $2500.

A total of 3.132 grams of speed were found.

Cooke pleaded guilty last week in Rockhampton Supreme Court to production of methylamphetamine between December 17, 2007 and January 4, 2008.

His lawyer Doug Winning said Cooke was an addict and “well and truly a member of the drug community” as a consumer.

Mr Winning said Cooke had been trying to deal with his habit since the arrest.

Justice Duncan McMeekin sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment with a parole release date in six months.
