Caribeae’s Saidee Whitcombe and Spencer Brown will be looking to continue their good form at the Australia School Sport Swimming Championships in Sydney.
The talented duo recently returned from strong showings at the Queensland Short Course Championships.
Backstroke specialist Whitcombe won gold in the 50m and silver in the 100m events in the 11 years girls, while also clocking Central Queensland records in the 25m and 50m.
Brown set new CQ records in the 25m, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke events for the 16 years boys.
They were among an eight-strong contingent from Caribeae who competed at the event, which attracted more than 1000 swimmers from 149 clubs.
They contested 78 events over the three days, winning 15 medals, scoring 22 top 10 finishes and producing 81 percent PBs.
Rose Brandon (12 years girls) won gold in the 400m individual medley and silver in the 200m breaststroke.
Kallem Humphrey-Travers (11-14 years boys MCS) won a swag of medals, bringing home silver in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke, the 50m and 100m butterfly, the 100m individual medley and the 200m freestyle.
Levi Thomsen (13 years boys) bagged bronze in the 1500m freestyle and the 400m and 200m individual medley, while Zachary Thomsen (12 years boys) claimed bronze in the 200m butterfly and the 400m IM.
Coach Jodie Shanks said it was a good start to the season for her swimmers.
“The kids all competed really well,” she said.
“They have been training really well and putting in some good sessions and they got the results because of it.”
Shanks said Brown and Whitcombe would be joined by clubmates Oliver Lau and Kyah Thomsen, both 10, at the school nationals.
Lau was crowned the 10 years boys Swimmer of the Meet at the state school championships.
“Both Sadie and Spencer have competed at this event before but this will be the first time for Oliver and Kyah,” Shanks said.
“They’ve been training well so I’m really looking forward to seeing how they compete down there.”
