Work has begun to demolish a home destroyed by fire over the weekend.
The tenants of the public housing property in Biloela are now without a home after a destructive fire on the weekend.
Fire crews were called to the single-storey home on Collins St at 11pm on July 1 to reports of one room on fire.
Up to three fire crews attended and were able to make entry through the front door and had the fire under control by 11.45pm.
The fire was completely out by 2.20am.
The tenants were not home at the time.
Police attended the scene and the fire appears to have been a result of an electrical fault and is being treated as non-suspicious.
The house was significantly damaged and trades began work on the site on Tuesday to demolish the remainders of the structure.
The property is owned by the Department of Housing as are a number of neighbouring houses and on the street behind.
In a statement requested by this publication, the Department said it was “working with the impacted tenants to help the family secure alternative housing and connect them with local services for assistance with new household goods”.
The future of the property is pending the outcome of an assessment process.
