An elderly Bouldercombe woman died after a multi-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon while another woman in her 50s has life-threatening injuries from a crash on the Bruce Highway north of Rockhampton this morning.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the woman, 52, who was involved in the single vehicle crash at Kunwarara Rd just after 4.30am today was flown to Rockhampton Hospital by CapRescue with life-threatening injuries to her head and chest.

The Bruce Hwy was reopened at 3.15pm.

A Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman said the 52-year-old woman was in a critical condition as of about 3.30pm this afternoon (January 17).

QAS initially reported paramedics were on the scene of the crash where a car went into a tree then down an embankment on Kunwarara Road at 4.37am.

Police also confirmed there had been another single vehicle crash at Springton Road in the Central Highlands.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the single vehicle crash had occurred on a bridge at Arcturus and blocked the road the road in both directions.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said Springton Rd was cleared at 8.10am.

She said the Bruce Highway was expected to remain closed at Kunwarara Rd until 12.30pm.

These crashes comes after a 75-year-old Bouldercombe woman died in a four-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon on the Burnett Highway near the Richmont Drive intersection at Bouldercombe.

Police said initial investigations reveal that around 3:25pm, a white Toyota Corolla hatchback was stationary in a southbound direction on the Burnett Highway, looking to make a right turn into Richmont Drive.

A blue Ford utility crashed into the rear of the Toyota, causing the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic where it was struck by a black Subaru travelling north.

The highway was closed for hours but police confirmed on Friday morning it had been reopened.

Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said four units cared for nine patients – including the woman who sustained critical injuries and two others with potentially life-threatening injuries.
