A Blackwater mine worker has been busted after police found he ordered marijuana online to be delivered by post.
Biloela man Kieran Pieter Dekker, 33, ordered 7g of weed off of the internet on January 6, which he paid for by bank transfer, the Biloela Magistrates Court heard on June 16.
The court heard Dekker had 1g left by the time police searched his house on April 1.
Police prosecutor Clancy Fox submitted that Dekker should get a probation sentence, saying it might assist his drug problems.
Dekker’s solicitor Richard Parks said he first came to court for drug related matters in 2018, since suffering severe back issues and pain.
“He’s in receipt of prescription marijuana now,” Mr Parks said.
Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale asked if Dekker’s cannabis prescription would affect his driving.
Mr Parks told the court Dekker uses his prescription in a way where he can drive.
“He controls the various types of use at various times,” he said.
Mr Parks said Dekker pleaded guilty in a timely manner and submitted he receive a heavier fine than he’s previously had, although the magistrate said fines were now out of range.
Ms Beckinsale told Dekker if he keeps doing drugs, it will get to the point where the court thinks he’s not taking any notice, and could lead to terms of imprisonment.
“I hope you have now sorted out what you need to with your medical condition,” she said.
Ms Beckinsale said it was not a ‘traditional’ drug supply because he sent the drugs to himself.
“I hope everyone that uses drugs knows that if you send it through the mail, it’s going to be caught up,” Ms Beckinsale said.
“Not recommended at all.”
Dekker pleaded guilty to supplying and possessing dangerous drugs and was given a six month probation order with a conviction recorded.
The magistrate took into account Dekker’s of guilty, the quantity of drugs and the method of supply.
