Construction Starts on Aldi supermarket at Stockland Rockhampton

Construction is expected to begin soon in the carpark of Stockland Rockhampton for the city’s second Aldi.
Commercial building company SJ Higgins, who have a head office in Melbourne and an office in Brisbane, were awarded the build tender in July 2022.
Stockland Rockhampton centre manager Elysia Billingham told this publication they were “incredibly excited” that construction would start soon.
“We value our role in providing the community with access to everyday essentials and services at Stockland Rockhampton,” she said.
“When complete in early 2025, our customers will have yet another reason to visit Stockland Rockhampton with greater choice for their groceries.”
The building will be located in the car park near Kmart and Mandalay Medical Centre, taking up 123 car parks.
There will be a covered pedestrian access to Stockland.
It will be 6.25 metres high with a gross floor area of 1725 sqm.
Aldi first opened in Rockhampton in October 2019 next to Fantastic Furniture.
At the time, it was the furthest one north in the state for the German supermarket chain.
An Aldi has since opened in Townsville in November 2023.
In 2017, Aldi announced it would be building two stores in Rockhampton.
There were plans for an $20 million development including an Aldi to be built on the land across from Stockland Rockhampton in front of Spotlight however Stockland appealed against it in 2018 and meditation was held.
The plans for the new store built in the Stockland car park were lodged with council in 2021.
Aldi is touted as the cheapest supermarket in Australia with smaller ranges of brands and products and offers weekly specials at low prices.
