Frenchville State School students put together cookbook

A class of Rockhampton students have put their heads together to come up with a way to reduce lunchbox plastics in their schoolyard.

A group of Rockhampton school students have put their heads together to think of an initiative to help solve the problem of plastic pollution.

Year 6 students at Frenchville State School have been learning how everyone is interconnected with other countries through the problem of plastic pollution.

During their studies, the students took a trip to Kemp Beach where they conducted a litter audit and then voted on how they could help combat the issue.

After brainstorming the issue, the students voted to create a cookbook called Cooking School Lunch Box Snacks.

The book contains recipes from the students of different plastic-free lunchbox snack alternatives.

Students of 6H at Frenchville State School created a recipe book to provide parents and carers with some plastic-free lunchbox alternatives.

The recipe book, which also contains persuasive messages from students, will be emailed to parents and carers at Frenchville State School in the coming weeks.

The students are also keen for their recipe book to be sent to the parents and carers of next year’s prep students, to help provide some plastic-free lunchbox snack alternatives.

After weeks of hard work pulling together their learnings and ideas, the students and their teacher Jacqui Hamilton held an official launch of their finished product on on May 1 and they also made snacks from the recipes in their cookbook.

Parents and carers also got the opportunity to go along and look at the multi-modal texts their kids put together and see their recipe book.
