Intersport Yeppoon lodges application to build new store on Erskine Court

A Yeppoon sporting store could double in size if a development application gets the green light from Livingstone Shire Council. Here’s what it could look like.

A Yeppoon sporting store could soon have a new home if a development application is approved by council.

A material change of use application was recently lodged with Livingstone Shire Council for a new shop to be built at 2 Erskine Court in Yeppoon.

The block of land was purchased in April by the owners of Yeppoon’s Intersport store.

The site is 2563 sqm and is located on the corner of Hoskyn Drive and Erskine Court, opposite the Yeppoon Hospital.

According to the development report, the area pinpointed for the new proposed store has “flourished” as a specialty business and servicing centre.

“The area has flourished as a specialty business and servicing centre, with a variety of uses including fuel stations, food and drink outlets, sales offices and indoor sport and recreation facilities to name a few,” the report says.

“The estate is conveniently located just off Yeppoon Road in a transitional area en route to the town centre.”

According to the report the building footprint would be about 988 sqm, covering 38.5 per cent of the total site.

“The shop floor area is a large open space and will be fitted out accordingly to suit the store’s needs,” the report says.

“Two storerooms are located at the rear of the building with delivery and service dock accessible from the rear driveway/carpark.”

The report says the building would also include an office, kitchen and bathroom for staff at ground level and a mezzanine area would also be created above the staff amenities and store room.

The application says the store would operate seven days a week and would employ seven people with a maximum of five working at a time.

A spokesman for Intersport Yeppoon said the new store would be twice as big as the current store and the new size would allow staff to expand their range and introduce new brands.

“Intersport Yeppoon is a destination store, so we chose this location as it is close to a lot of stores that are similar,” the spokesman said.

“We believe we will fit in well with the area.

“The feedback has been overwhelming, everyone we have spoken to are excited about the larger store, and proud of how far we have come in five years of trade.

“Bringing a new store like this to the Yeppoon community is what we look forward to the most. It’s very rewarding.”
