A Rockhampton beautician has taken her business to the next level by opening the door to her new lash studio.
Friday McMullen, who owns Friday Beauty, recently moved out of her home studio and into her new site at 13 Murray St.
“I’ve got my partner and a two-year-old at home and it was nice being at home in my comfort zone, but in saying that I wanted to change it up and separate the two (work and home),” she said.
“It’s a bit more of a professional workspace as well, I made it as professional as I could working from home but it’s still home.”
But while moving into a new space can be a bit daunting, Ms McMullen isn’t doing it alone.
Right next door is her close friend and fellow beautician Hazel Poundes, who runs Haven Beauty Room.
Ms Poundes has been in her studio for close to a year and said she was excited to have Ms McMullen move in next door.
The pair initially met working together at another beauty studio.
“It’s so exciting, it’s like what we’ve always wanted, we’ve always wanted to work together but for ourselves,” Ms McMullen said.
“It’s really easy, we’re good friends and we’ve worked together before and we’ll always be there to help each other if we need it.”
“It’s like we’ve manifested it,” Ms Poundes said.
“Our clients know both of us so if I’m sick or away Friday’s been able to help pick them up and be a reliable person.”
Both Ms McMullen and Ms Poundes specialise in lash treatments such as extensions, lifts and tinting.
Ms McMullen said the treatments have become more popular in recent years.
“They just make you feel so nice, especially when you’ve got to rush to work and you don’t want to put makeup on,” she said.
“If you have your lashes done you can look in the mirror and be like ‘oh yeah, I’m ready to go’.
“It cuts out a whole morning of getting ready and there’s so many different styles you can have them as natural or as full as you like.”
Ms McMullen and Ms Poundes said it was great to know locals were supporting the region’s beauticians.
“It is really awesome, especially being in such a small town everyone knows everyone and it’s good people support the people they know,” Ms McMullen said.
“It’s such a lovely feeling knowing people like what you do and want to come to you.”
“Word of mouth goes a long way, you have your clients and they recommend you to their friends and family and you end up knowing the whole family,” Ms Poundes said.
