With business in Yeppoon picking up, a trio of local women saw a gap for a homestyle coffee and cake shop.

Kayla Wittwer, Yinnie Durie and Mikali Ruff recently opened Coffee and Co on Tanby Rd in the old Kris’s Coffee site which is now a new site on Farnborough Rd.

The name Coffee and Co is inspired by Ms Wittwer’s beloved dog Coffee and its sibling Coda, owned by one of her business partners.

“I’ve always had a bit of an interest in business and making cheesecakes and things like that … I’ve always had a bit of a passion for coffee and saw the need through Yeppoon,” she said.

“We just all love our coffee and our cakes … we saw the opportunity with this property when it came up and figured it’d be a good spot to service a lot of the local businesses, there’s a lot of car servicing and not a whole lot over this side of town.”

Ms Wittwer said she and her business partners were trying to keep their products as local as they could, using coffee beans from Yeppoon wholesaler Cuppa Cabana.

She also makes the delicious cheesecakes that are stocked in the cabinet each day and will keep the customer favourite flavours, such as Nutella, New York baked and Kinder Bueno, in rotation.

“Our first day we had a lot of local support and we’ve consistently had a lot of regulars that have been coming back,” she said.

“Everyone’s been really excited to see Cuppa Cabana coffee being used here and we’ve tried to have a focus on locally sourced products as much as we can and we hope to keep expanding on that.

“It’s exciting, when we went to open there was always that question of ‘is it just your friends and family being nice to you that your baking is good’, but it’s good to see the community are along with it and that there’s that demand shows that something I’ve taught myself at home has come into something that everyone else can enjoy.”

Customer feedback to add more shade and be more pet friendly has also been taken on-board.

“We’re working on getting more shade and more seating and more cheesecakes,” she said.

“There’s more to come and we’re taking a lot of their feedback.”
