From its early days as a fish and chip shop, then a chocolate store, a florist and coffee shop and most recently a retail clothing store, new plans are in motion for 98 Upper Dawson Road.
The property, which is on the corner of Parnell Street, has been home to a number of businesses over the decades and sold to a Rockhampton businessman in May who is looking to develop it into a dental practice.
A development application was recently lodged with Rockhampton Regional Council by Gideon Town Planning to establish a health care service on the subject site.
The proposal includes remodelling the existing commercial structure and dwelling unit to have an open plan reception area, three consulting rooms, amenities and a staff area.
It was expected the practice would generally operate from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and not outside of planning scheme hours of 7am to 7pm.
The property sold earlier this year, for the first time since 2014, for $485,000.
Clothing store Secret Girl Stuff opened at the site in 2015, before moving to William Street at the end of 2021.
In previous years, businesses included Potz N Pozies Florist and Gifts, Choc-o-latte Patisserie and Mac’s Fish and Chips for a few years around 2000.
In other industry news in the city, a new orthodontic clinic is under construction at 112-114 Denham Street, between Hungry Jacks and HB & Co, by DR Moore builders.
Clinic owners Nick and Nadene Manning will move from their Fitzroy Street space.
There are 10 privately owned dental practices in Rockhampton.
The development application for the Upper Dawson Road site is now under assessment by council.
