Building in Rockhampton CBD catches fire, flames spread next door

A building in Rockhampton’s CBD caught fire on Saturday night, spreading to a neighbouring property and prompting five fire crews and a tanker truck to rush to the scene.
Emergency services were called to the flaming PureComm building at 108 Alma Street at 5.25pm.
A QFES spokeswoman said the building was “well-involved” and that the fire had spread to the house next door before being contained.
She said that to her knowledge, the property was vacant.
Firefighters were still hosing down the building at 6.45pm.
Several sets of traffic lights and street lights turned off about 6.10pm.
Ergon said “the loss of supply is due to damage requiring emergency repairs” and that 283 customers were affected.
Streets involved include Alma Lane, Alma Street, Archer Street, Bolsover Lane, Bolsover Street, Campbell Street, Denham Street, Denison Lane, Denison Street, Derby Street, East Street, Fitzroy Street, Kent Lane, Kent Street, and William Street.
As of 7.10pm, the estimated repair time was unknown.
