The manager of Rockhampton’s Smoooth Juice cafe companies, which went into liquidation and now owe more than $800,000 to creditors, is wanted on an arrest warrant.

The revelation comes after the cafes, including the southside and northside stores, went into liquidation on March 29, two weeks after the former was gutted by fire.

Brett David Paul, 40, faces criminal charges unrelated to the collapse of his family’s company or the fire which remains under investigation.

The charges include possessing dangerous drug, allegedly related to possessing cannabis in November 2022, common assault, stemming from an incident in August and possess property suspected in drug offence (a glass pipe) according to court documents.

There are further outstanding charges.

Mr Paul was granted bail on May 19 and signed conditions at the Rockhampton Watchhouse.

These conditions included that he report twice a week at the Rockhampton Police Station and that he must not live at another address than his listed address at Park Avenue, unless written permission is given by police or prosecutions.

He was given a court date of June 7, at the Rockhampton Magistrates Court, however he failed to appear and a warrant has since been issued for his arrest.

Mr Paul was manager of the Smoooth Juice cafes and it was revealed earlier this month that the company still owes dozens of businesses thousands.

Among the larger owed amounts is $10,327 to Knight Frank Rockhampton, $10,000 to the Rockhampton Leagues Club, more than $40,000 to billboard sign company Bishop Outdoor Advertising and $19,860 to Mandoe Media,

Mr Paul’s mother, Sandra Rowcliffe, was registered as the director of the companies.

Meanwhile, police are continuing investigations on the alleged arson of the southside Smoooth Juice store.

A fire was reported at the George St store on March 12 and police quickly treated it as suspicious and believe arson is the cause.

There is no suggestion Ms Rowcliffe or Mr Paul had anything to do with the fire.
