A Farnborough Beach user has called out an “idiot” hoon after a near miss involving families and children on the popular stretch of coastline last weekend.

Noeleen Motto took to social media to express her anger at the dangerous behaviour of a person behind the wheel of a LandCruiser on Saturday morning.

“...just coming off Farnborough beach and the idiot in the white land cruiser with the number plate came fish tailing onto the beach where there were families on the beach, children playing,” Ms Motto wrote.

“Grow up mate it’s people like you that wreck it for others.”

Ms Motto’s post sparked further outcry from other community members who were angered to hear of the driver’s behaviour.

“Another tosser wrecking it for the respectable ones,” Nictoria La-Tropical wrote.

Ashleigh Powell said: “Yep.....people want to blame council for restrictions when morons like this are the ones that lead to the restrictions.”

Peter Turner said: “Report them to police. Bout time these morons had their licences taken away.”

Jeremy Crane said: “Give it time they’ll block access all together.”

Michael Callow said he had lost count of how many beach drivers did this.

“It will be closed off completely eventually thanks to these idiots,” Mr Callow added.

Ms Motto came back into the discussion, saying: “He (driver) was fish tailing towards us we had to stop so he wouldn’t hit us.”

This publication asked Livingstone Shire Council if it was aware of the incident last Saturday morning.

The council responded with a statement saying: “Council’s Local Laws team are not aware of any specific hooning incidents, however visitation numbers to Farnborough beach via the Bangalee beach access over the weekend were extremely high.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said there was no record of any reports to police about this incident.

“Anyone who has witnessed these sort of incidents, we encourage them to report it to police,” the QPS spokeswoman said.

Last month, Livingstone Shire Council decided it would close both Bangalee and Sandy Point vehicle beach accesses to all vehicular traffic at night for a three-month trial, with a ban start date to be advised.

When asked on Tuesday, September 27, whether that start date had been determined, the council said: “The commencement of the trial is not yet confirmed, however we expect to inform the public of the start date by mid to late October.”

The council said people who witnessed dangerous driving on beaches should contact Policelink on 13HOON or the Yeppoon Police Station on 4939 0000.
