A $28 million luxury 50-apartment building on Anzac Parade with restaurants, cafes and shops is set to change the face of Yeppoon.

The Salt Apartments Yeppoon, on the corner of Anzac Parade and John St, was given the green light at a full council meeting this week.

Combined with neighbouring Echelon Apartments and the future development of the Strand hotel, it will be a welcomed addition to modernising Yeppoon's beachfront.

Developer Andrew Beaumont, who also was a partner in Echelon, said he got his idea for one of the features of the building - a large al fresco dining and retail area on the ground floor, from the popular Mooloolaba beachfront esplanade.

On a holiday to the beach city, Mr Beaumont marvelled at the activity, tourism and lifestyle and wanted to bring this to Yeppoon by incorporating unique footpath dining along the beachfront into the design.

He said the development would accommodate short-term holidaymakers, and cater for their needs, as tourism figures showed more than 200 extra beds were needed over the next few years.

"With more holiday apartments there is greater opportunity to support a beachfront retail precinct on Anzac Parade, and people like to go somewhere where there is a bit of activity," he said.

Mr Beaumont said Yeppoon's Como and Tropical Nights apartment buildings were expected to be demolished late this year, subject to presales, to make way for The Salt Apartments, which would have 40 metres of beach frontage.

Construction was expected to start early next year.
