The crowd went wild as Alexander Davies had his first go at rodeo riding on Saturday afternoon.

The four-year old from Frenchville beamed from ear to ear after he rode his poddy calf out of the gates at the Caves Rodeo, north of Rockhampton.

Dad Matthew and Alexander’s Aunty Louise volunteer on The Caves Show Association so he’s grown up around rodeos and wanted to have a go.

Meanwhile, the big buckers from Canoo Rock Contracting arrived on the back of a truck.

Matt Busby was having a hard time with the bronco Dealer’s Pocket, who seemed to want to eat his arm.

“He was bred by our stallion out of his sister’s horse,” he said.

“It’s his first go at rodeo tonight.

“He might buck a bit wild at first but he should work out a bit of a pattern in time.”

Canoo Contracting has about seventy horses bred to buck, and expects to supply fifteen rodeos this year.

The business was begun by Matt’s father 42 years ago.
