$4.77m social housing construction starts on Campbell St, Rockhampton

Work has begun on 10 new units, including some for those with disabilities. See the map of social housing projects in Rockhampton and Gracemere.

Construction has begun on a new $4.77 million-dollar social housing project in Rockhampton city, with some of the units for people with disabilities.

It adds to the 130 social housing properties built in the Central Queensland region since 2015.

Since June 2020, there have been 38 properties built in Rockhampton and Gracemere.

As of March 31, 2022, there were 3904 social housing dwellings in the Central Queensland region and there were 592 applicants on the social housing register, which provides support to people most in need, as of June 2023.

Hutchinson Builders have begun work on 10 units on Campbell Street project in Rockhampton city, which will be added to the State Government’s social housing register.

The construction on the land bought by the government in 2011 for $180,000 will support 17 full-time equivalent jobs.

The complex includes eight one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units and three of which are designed for older people and with higher mobility needs.

“It’s great to see that a number of these homes will be built with accessibility in mind to meet the needs of older Queenslanders and peoples with a disability,” Rockhampton MP Barry O’Rourke said.
