Brisbane radio star Robin Bailey and her family were detained by Federal Police at Sydney Airport after security found a bizarre item hidden in her son’s second hand jacket.
The KIIS 97.3FM breakfast radio presenter and two of her three sons, Fin and Piper, were returning home to Brisbane after a weekend in Sydney when they were suddenly ushered away from the security screening at 4am and told to wait for Federal Police.
Piper had purchased a $110 second hand jacket from a store in Sydney during the weekend getaway and had placed it through security before they were pulled aside.
“As we are going through security something sparks a reaction that went from zero to 1 million,” Bailey told co-hosts Kip Wightman and Terry Hansen on the breakfast show.
“It (the jacket) went through three times, but then people started to run. And then we got pulled to one side and they wouldn’t tell us what was going on. They said, ‘we must call the Federal Police’. I’m like, what is in the jacket? I’m going everywhere from cocaine.”
She added: “I was completely panicked. Nothing like this has ever happened to me.”
Bailey said security had found a bullet inside a pocket of the jacket, which classified as live ammunition.
“It was also embedded in a hidden pocket so it wasn’t one he was putting his hands into,” she continued, adding they were quickly cleared of any wrongdoing.
“The Federal Police arrived and they were lovely. Pipes had the receipt so it proved we had no idea what was going on.”
