The man charged with the murder of Toowoomba mother, Frances Crawford, will apply for bail in an attempt to be released from custody while he awaits trial.

Robert John Crawford, 46, has been charged with the murder of his wife on July 30 after police found her body at the bottom of a retainer wall on their Upper Lockyer property.

Police will allege Crawford moved Frances’ body in an attempt to make her death look like a lawnmower accident. He has also been charged with interfering with a corpse.

Crawford was charged on October 11 after an in-depth investigation by homicide detectives and has remained in custody since.

But on October 25, Crawford’s solicitors McGinness & Associates Lawyers filed their intent to make an application for bail to Brisbane Supreme Court.

The application for bail will be heard before a judge on November 14.

Emergency services were called to the couple’s Lockyer Valley property about 3.30am on July 30 after Crawford raised the alarm of Frances’ death.

Just two months later, Crawford started renting out the house where Frances was allegedly killed on Airbnb for up to $300 a night, labelling the property as a “tranquil” retreat.

Police later made an appeal to the public for information, revealing that Crawford had connections with women all over the world who he met on dating apps and through his career as a RAAF pilot.

The women resided in Italy, United States of America, Papua New Guinea, Guam, Afghanistan, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Western Australia, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory, New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland.

On October 11, less than a week after the appeal, police arrested and charged Crawford with Frances’ murder.

In Queensland, a person charged with murder cannot apply for bail in the Magistrates Court. The application can only be made to the Supreme Court.

While it is uncommon for these applications to be made, people charged with murder have been released on bail in the past.

Gable Tostee was initially charged with murder after Warriena Wright, 26, in 2016 fell to her death from an apartment building on the Gold Coast.

He was granted bail to await his trial, where he was found not guilty of all charges relating to Ms Wright’s death by a jury.
