Brisbane motorists have been urged to plan ahead for closures on the Riverside Expressway over the next three weeks as construction ramps up on the Queen’s Wharf development.
From tomorrow, the southbound lanes between Tank and Alice streets will be closed from 9pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays over the next three weeks until 5am the following day.
There will also be one Sunday night closure on 16 May.
RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Richie said the 10 nights of closures were a “necessary inconvenience” for safety reasons.
“A 60-tonne steel structure is being moved into position above the Riverside Expressway, so for obvious safety reasons, drivers will need to avoid the area,” Ms Ritchie said.
A detour with signage will be available through the city during the closures, with access from the Alice St on-ramp to the Riverside Expressway open for southbound traffic.
Southbound tolls will be waived on the Go Between Bridge for the eight-hour blocks, with the 340 bus route to be diverted through the South Eastern Busway.
Motorists can also take alternate routes over the William Jolly Bridge, Story Bridge or via Roma St.
“It’s important motorists to pay attention to the changed traffic conditions, allow extra time and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signposted routes,” Ms Ritchie said.
