“The British Royal Family continue to capture the hearts of Australians, and with the latest royal baby having just been born, the nation is eagerly awaiting what his name will be,” social researcher Kimberley Linco said.
“Compared to previous decades, parents in the 2010s have been opting for more creative choices for their children’s name.”
Ava, Isla, Olivia and Amelia were also in the top five most popular baby names in Queensland, along with William, Jack, Noah and Henry for the boys.
McCrindle Research found when Princess Charlotte was born in 2015, her name overtook Olivia as the most popular baby name and remains undefeated.
When Prince Louis was born in 2018, his name gained popularity in Australia and has jumped 14 places, now ranking number 59.
Salisbury mum Alannagh O’Reilly said she is often gets comments about how old fashioned her son William’s name is.
“Certainly there seems to be a trend with royal names, we often bump into other Williams and Harry’s,” she said.
“I guess the royal family have transcended into popular culture and we often reach out to our wider influence, whether we do that subconsciously or not, to choose our children’s names,” she said.
