Queensland’s southeast ranks as Australia’s fastest growing region for tech sector

Five South East Queensland regions have ranked in the top 10 for Australia’s fastest growing when it comes to the tech sector.

Queensland’s southeast has emerged as the fastest growing region for the country’s booming tech sector, which is tipped to employ one million people by 2025.

The new Tech Council of Australia which is made up of 23 companies including AfterPay, Google Australia and Microsoft Australia formed aiming to hit that 1 million person target as well as making Australia a global hotspot for new tech companies.

There are already more than 850,000 Australians working in technology right now with 65,000 jobs created during the pandemic.

“There is lots of great activity coming in the tech sector itself, there are some really positive stories like Go1 in Logan so Queensland is producing some killer companies,” Ms Pounder said.

Five areas in the southeast sit in Australia’s top ten fastest growing in the country, including Brisbane East, Moreton Bay South, Logan – Beaudesert, Ipswich and the Gold Coast.

“Brisbane is a pretty significant economy in it’s own right and it is one of the fastest growing areas for people to live in the country.”

“The boom in tech related jobs means there are now more software engineers and developers in Australia than hairdressers, plumbers, or high school teachers.”

Heather Morgan, a qualified dietitian and now an employee at the Logan based workplace training company, Go1, said she is very hopeful for her future in tech.

“With Go1, I didn’t just switch sectors to the tech industry. I chose to be part of Go1 because we share the same values and aspirations, and to create an environment where our people have a strong sense of purpose – what we’re doing is more than a job,” Ms Morgan said.

“My interest in people’s health and wellbeing has always been close to my heart. My passion to help others achieve good health, happiness, a sense of satisfaction in whatever they do.”
