THEY’RE the seven wonders of Queensland selling the Sunshine State to the world.
Travel specialist Big 7 has released a list of Queensland’s most Instagrammable attractions to showcase the state’s postcard perfection.
Australia topped the global competition as the No. 1 country in the world for 2019, with judges crediting Queensland with a large role in helping seal the deal.
Big 7 also revealed the seven Queensland locations most favoured on social media, with Whitehaven Beach taking out top spot followed by Cape Tribulation in far north Queensland and Lake Wabby on Fraser Island.
Tourism and Events Queensland chief executive Leanne Coddington said the state’s unique natural landscapes were picture-perfect for the Instagram faithful.
“Queensland has some of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural beauty and a diversity of experiences you can‘t get anywhere else,” she said.
“Whitehaven Beach is world-renowned for its white sand and clear water, Cape Tribulation’s untouched natural beauty has to be seen to be believed, and Fraser Island continues to be one of our more popular destinations.
“Social media and word of mouth is vital in spreading our tourism message so it is great to see these destinations being shared on Instagram.”
Big 7’s Sarah Clayton-Lea said Queensland was a major factor in Australia’s standing as the world’s most Instagrammable location.
“Our readers and panel of judges were overwhelmingly positive about Queensland,” she said.
“The perfect climate, world-class tourist spots and stunning scenery helped swing the vote for Australia as a whole and secure the No. 1 spot.
She said social media was becoming a valuable influencer in travel trends.
“Instagram – and social media in general – is a fantastic indicator of what will become popular for tourism,” she said.
“These are the places people actually want to visit, rather than the ones they’ve been told to by a guide book.”
