Australia’s Paralympic legend Alexa Leary has officially landed back on Queensland soil, carrying her precious golden cargo with her.
As the golden girl was greeted by excited fans, she showed off her new medals and danced along to Kylie Minogue’s Spinning Around at the Brisbane International Airport arrivals area.
The swimming sensation quickly became a household name across the nation, dazzling audiences as she flew across the pool in record-breaking time.
But the 23-year-old already won Australia’s hearts before she hit the Paralympic pool, inspiring young swimmers with her incredible backstory.
Three years ago a traumatic brain injury she received after crashing her bike during a training ride on the Sunshine Coast had doctors concerned she would not pull through.
The injury she suffered had far more than a physical impact, causing life-altering effects.
Her traumatic accident didn’t stop her from achieving her dream of becoming an Olympian, bringing home one silver and two gold medals at the Paris Games.
Leary’s touchdown follows her stellar success at the Games and a well deserved break with her family in Greece.
The Gold Coast local plans to head to the world swimming championships, bound to snap up more medals along the way.
