The cost of diesel has now hit record highs across the state with prices reaching tops of 242.9cpl throughout Brisbane, as experts warn the worst could be yet to come.

Daily average costs at the bowser have smashed previous records with Greater Brisbane seeing an average of 238c/l for diesel up from the previous average on July 1 of 236.4c/l.

Meanwhile, Logan’s average is at 237.5c/l, Moreton Bay is at 236.4c/l and Ipswich is at 236.3c/l.

In Brisbane, diesel is hitting tops of 242.9c/l in Wellington Point and 241.9c/l in Bellbowrie.

Lauren Cooney from RACQ said the record high prices are due to international factors rather than fuel companies simply overcharging customers.

“Russia is a major manufacturer and distributor of diesel, especially to the European market. With the ongoing war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russian exports, the global supply of diesel has fallen significantly, causing wholesale prices to rise and remain incredibly high,” she said.

Demand is exceptionally high for diesel across the world, according to Ms Cooney who said the worst is yet to come.

“With retail margins currently low for diesel, the bad news is prices are likely to continue to creep a little higher,” she said.

Meanwhile, petrol prices have continued to remain relatively steady despite the government reinstating the tax excise at the end of September.

The cheapest price for Unleaded91 in Brisbane can be found in Kuraby, south of Brisbane for 168.5, while it can hit tops of 185.9c/l in Redbank.
