One of Queensland’s top tourism leaders has announced his resignation as the industry prepares for the next phase of the coronavirus pandemic.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Daniel Gschwind has informed colleagues that he will leave the high-profile post in April after more than 20 years with the peak lobby group.
Mr Gschwind has been the face of the industry’s struggles during the pandemic and has been a key stakeholder in lobbying governments for increased funding and support through lockdowns and border closures.
In an email to industry colleagues he said QTIC was “well-placed and well-staffed to continue its important task of supporting the industry”.
“There will be plenty of time for me to reflect on the great privilege it has been for me to work with countless inspiring, inspired and supportive people,” he said.
Mr Gschwind said he remained committed to QTIC for the next few months to help guide the industry through the transition from lockdowns and border closures to learning to live with the coronavirus.
Born in Switzerland, Mr Gschwind has been in Queensland for decades, raising his own family here.
He said he was looking forward to the next chapter in his life but was not looking for another full-time role elsewhere.
