Education Minister Grace Grace said Queensland Health has advised that the student was not at school during the contagious period of their illness.

"There is low risk of transmission given the early action by the family to self-quarantine," she said.

"But in an abundance of caution and in line with advice from the Chief Health Officer the school will now close.

"This will allow further contact tracing by Queensland Health and a thorough clean of the school by the Department of Education."

While the student attended the primary campus at Gowan, the whole campus including the secondary Illaweena campus is now closed.

In a letter to parents, executive principal Jan Maresca said the students attended the Gowan Campus last week prior to the confirmation of the positive test.

“These students are not attending school this week,” she said.

Stretton State College has about 2630 students across its primary (Gowan) and secondary Illaweena) campuses.
