Long-serving Queensland Public Trustee Peter Carne has been cleared by the Crime and Corruption Commission of allegations of misbehaviour.
He has decided to retire after the CCC advised it would not be proceeding with any charges.
“I knew I had not done anything wrong and the CCC found nothing in the allegations against me that warranted further action,’’ he said.
“The past 12 months have taken their toll and I’ve chosen to retire and move on to the next stage of my life.’’
Mr Carne was suspended from his position in June last year after “serious allegations’’ were made, and a show cause notice was issued by Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath “which could amount to misbehaviour under Section 9 of the Public Trustee Act’’.
Mr Carne, who had been in the job since 2009, is a former chief executive and president of the Queensland Law Society and was credited with turning around the Public Trustee’s finances.
