QUEENSLAND pedophiles are leading a sickening trend of buying made-to-order child sex dolls, sparking a wave of investigations and charges.

Five men throughout the state are facing up to 10 years’ jail for importing the Chinese-made dolls, which weigh about 15kg and are 100cm tall.

The abhorrent trend is worrying authorities, who believe the importation of the child-exploitation devices leads to contact offending and more victims.

The dolls, which cost about $1000, are life-like and can have their anatomy made-to-order, have all been seized by Australian Border Force since September.

The five separate cases, in which a Toowoomba man was summonsed to Toowoomba Magistrates Court on December 7 and faces further hearings, comes as another alleged offender is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 17.

Briefs of evidence for the other cases are being prepared by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. After warrants were executed by Border Force and Queensland Police at homes in north Queensland, Hervey Bay, Fortitude Valley and Toowoomba, it is alleged further child exploitation material was found in some of the residences. Computers and other devises were seized.

The men, who range in ages, professions and marital status, all ordered their dolls to look like very young girls with fair skin. One alleged offender is believed to be a convicted pedophile. None are believed to have worked with children.

All of the alleged offenders sought to receive their child sex dolls using airmail, a more expensive and quicker way to receive international packages.

It is an offence to import objectionable goods into Australia under Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations, which includes dolls manufactured for a sexual purpose designed to look like a child under 18 years.

ABF Commissioner Roman Quaedvlieg said there had been an increase in attempts to import child sex dolls in the past 18 months.

“We believe this is largely due to the continued growth in internet purchasing and the increased availability of such items,” Mr Quaedvlieg said.

“We currently have nine child sex doll import investigations under way across Australia, including five in Queensland.” There are also two in Victoria and Western Australia.

“We will use the full force of the law and pursue the penalties available including fines of up to $450,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years’ against anyone attempting to import these objects.”
