He also revealed Lime would have its permit to operate in the city extended to June, after more than 500,000 trips were taken since its launch late last year.
Under the plan, two companies would be allowed to collectively operate 1000 e-scooters in the city.
Cr Schrinner said the move was about generating a competitive e-scooter market in Brisbane.
“This procurement process will be rigorous and will involve developing a plan with each operator to achieve the best outcome for the community,” he said.
“We don’t want to negatively impact the community with a large number of e-scooters, and a cap of 500 scooters per operator is in line with e-scooter operations in other areas.”
Cr Schrinner said the decision to extend Lime’s permit was to ensure there was no disruption to scooter services will the procurement process was underway.
It is understood 10 companies have already expressed an interest to operate to operate in Brisbane.
Opposition transport spokesman Cr Jared Cassidy agreed that e-scooter travel was the way of the future.
“Labor has consistently supported the trail and welcome its extension,” he said.
“We understand there are concerns about the impact scooters have on footpaths shares with pedestrians, but with strong guidelines we believe this can be managed.”
