QUEENSLAND’S Council of Unions will tell voters to put the LNP last in the Longman by-election, insisting they are Labor’s true competition, not One Nation.

The QCU had opted to put One Nation last on its third party how-to-vote cards last in November during the state election but QCU general secretary Ros McLennan said a different strategy was needed this time.

“It is mathematically impossible for One Nation to win the Longman by-election,” Ms McLennan told The Courier-Mail.

“It is clearly the Federal LNP agenda that the combined union movement is opposing.

“The QCU is recommending in the Longman by-election that voters put the LNP last.

“But we are not letting One Nation off the hook because if you do vote for One Nation, you will get the LNP.

“Essentially One Nation is the LNP in orange T-shirts as far as we’re concerned but they are not the competition.”

It comes after it was revealed both Labor and the LNP would be asking voters to place Australia First’s Jim Saleam — a former neo-Nazi who advocates a “White Australia” policy — last on their how-to-vote cards.

Labor has asked voters to put One Nation second last while the LNP has numbered One Nation higher than Labor.
