Qld politics: Frankie Carroll to head Victoria’s Suburban Rail Loop

Less than two months after the Queensland Government announced he was staying, a top bureaucrat is off to Victoria.

Former Queensland under treasurer Frankie Carroll has taken up a top gig heading one of the Victorian Government’s signature projects.

The appointment comes less than two months after the Queensland Government announced he was continuing in his role as director-general of the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water.

The Victorian Government yesterday announced Mr Carroll would take up the position as Suburban Rail Loop’s new chief executive on January 27.

An acting director-general will now be appointed to the Queensland department, with a recruitment process to follow.

The Queensland Opposition last year asked the state’s corruption watchdog to investigate claims former deputy premier Jackie Trad interfered with the recruitment process for the role of under treasurer, filled by Mr Carroll.

There have been no public developments since.

Victoria’s Minister for Suburban Rail Loop Jacinta Allan said yesterday Mr Carroll brought a wealth of experience and leadership to the Suburban Rail Loop at an important time in the development and delivery of the “transformative” project.

“The Suburban Rail Loop team has a big task ahead as we get on with early works to get this massive project under way,” she said.

Mr Carroll is a former CEO of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority and was director of Trade and Investment Queensland, director of Building Queensland and chair of Economic Development Queensland.
