Poll shows majority want state government scrapped, federal to take charge

As the October election looms, a poll by The Courier-Mail has shown exactly how an overwhelming majority of Queenslanders feel about scrapping the state government.

Qld Premier's popularity plummets in latest poll

QUEENSLANDERS have made their point clear with a massive 82 per cent saying Australia should ditch state government all together.

An online poll of The Courier-Mail readers yesterday saw a whopping 82 per cent say ‘yes’ to the question, “Should Australia ditch its state governments?” – an idea proposed by columnist Mike O’Connor.

Only 18 per cent of voters wanted to keep the government in the states hands rather than go federal.

The decisive result comes after a shocking YouGov poll, conducted exclusively for The Courier-Mail showed Anastasia Palaszczuk had become the second most unpopular premier in recent history and Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington was also out of favour with voters.

The poll showed more voters were undecided than had a preferred leader.

Whether it's the expensive IT equipment, and overdose of consultants or a bloated public service, Queenslanders aren’t happy with the current system.

One commenter, Ian, said “State govts are just another layer of bureaucracy that costs us a bucket full of money for virtually little return.”
