Longman candidate’s false medal claims not a one-off

A spokesman for Ms Lamb said he was not a registered volunteer for Ms Lamb or involved with her campaign and condemned their actions.

Meanwhile One Nation’s Longman candidate Matthew Stephen has strongly rejected claims he owes tradies thousands of dollars dating back to 2014, saying the suggestions were politically motivated.

In a video released online, a man wearing a shirt branded with the ACTU slogan “change the rules”, and driving a ute with signs promoting Labor candidate Susan Lamb, is seen swearing and threatening to “smash” LNP volunteers.

He was photographed with Ms Lamb during her 2016 election campaign, but it is understood the Labor Party disassociated itself from him after a similar incident in the 2017 election campaign.

“I want to smack his phone down and smash him too,” he said.

“The only thing that (inaudible) is the RSPCA would be on to me for cruelty to a f***ing dumb animal.” After being asked not to swear he replies “ah, f*** you too”.

A spokesman for Ms Lamb said she was unaware of the incident until the matter was raised by The Courier-Mail.

“Susan condemns any anti-social or threatening behaviour and has referred this matter to the State Secretary,” he said.

Meanwhile, several tradies have come forward claiming Mr Stephen owes them thousands of dollars from a job in the Northern Territory in 2014 — which he denies.

“My number hasn’t changed in 10 years. If there’s anybody in this country who says I owe them money they can give me a call,” Mr Stephen said.

He said it was a “disgusting” political tactic to discredit him.

“I’ve had every single media outlet in the country ringing me,” he said.

There are at least two court rulings related to the 2014 job in the Northern Territory ordering Mr Stephen or is his former company Aus Tile to pay back thousands of dollars to subcontractors, but he said he had since fulfilled all his obligations.
