ADRIAN Schrinner will be Brisbane’s new Lord Mayor after he was elected at a party room meeting of LNP councillors.

He will replace outgoing Lord Mayor Graham Quirk, who announced this week he would be stepping down from the city’s top job. Holland Park Ward councillor Krista Adams was elected as the Deputy Mayor.

“I congratulate Adrian Schrinner on being appointed Lord Mayor of Australia’s biggest Council,” party leader Deb Frecklington said.

“I look forward to working with him and the rest of Council to tackle several significant issues, including busting traffic congestion.

“I also take this opportunity to again thank former Lord Mayor Graham Quirk for his passion and professionalism in the top job over the past eight years.”

Cr Schrinner was elected to Brisbane City Council in 2005 for the Chandler Ward and has played an influential role in the Quirk administration.

For the past eight years, the 41-year-old has served as Cr Quirk’s right-hand man after being elevated to Deputy Mayor at age 33 — the youngest in the city’s history.

He beat Community Services Chairman and Paddington Ward councillor Peter Matic in today’s leadership ballot.

Cr Schrinner had been considered the strong frontrunner ahead of the ballot.

The new Lord Mayor will officially be sworn into the job at a special meeting of Council on Monday, April 8.

In recent years, Cr Schrinner has served in Cr Quirk’s Civic Cabinet as Chairman of Active and Public Transport.

He has taken the lead on key issues and projects, such as the $944 million Brisbane Metro.
