NEW laws banning developer donations are tipped to be introduced in State Parliament by the Palaszczuk Government today.
But the LNP could move to block the changes unless the Government moves to ban union donations as well.
Ms Palaszczuk refused to comment on the timing of the Bill before meeting with representatives from the Local Government Association of Queensland and the Property Council of Queensland yesterday to discuss her Government’s plans.
“There is a very clear link between developer donations and the prospect of alleged corruption,” she said.
“There is a proven link and therefore we have an obligation to act on those reports.”
Ms Palaszczuk again promised to act swiftly but is refusing to be drawn on whether or not the laws will be in place before the State Election.
Labor stopped accepting donations from property developers last Friday in anticipation of new laws being introduced this week and potentially being made retrospective.
Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said the government should ban union donations as well.
“The legislation should include the union movement,” Mr Nicholls said.
“We believe that the threat of the unions is equal if not greater than any other group who make contributions to political parties.
“She (the Premier) is trying to tip the playing field in favour of the Labor Party.”
