Jackie Trad fires up during abortion Twitter war

JUST weeks after calling an LNP MP a sleazebag on Twitter, Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has again become embroiled in a fiery social media spat with an opposition politician - this time about abortion.

Queensland Labor introducing bill to decriminalise abortion

DEPUTY Premier Jackie Trad has called LNP MP Mark Robinson a racist and claims he was “spreading absolute” mistruths during a heated Twitter spat over new laws to legalise abortion in Queensland.

Mr Robinson called Ms Trad “Jihad Jackie” in a tweet where he also accused Labor of being ‘the abortion party” for wanting to legalise terminations.

The Labor Government will introduce legislation to decriminalise abortion this month and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said her MPs will be afforded a conscience vote.

Mr Robinson claimed in a Tweet that the proposed legislation is an ‘abortion-to-birth’ law that had already been rejected by 55,000 Queenslanders in a 2017 petition.

While in a Facebook post he wrote “…It’s time for the Premier to stand up to Jihad Jackie for the sake of women and their preborn babies and say 14,000 abortions every year in QLD is enough”.

Ms Trad fired back saying she “won’t be intimidated by racists” and “I won’t politely defer to men who like to keep women in their place”.

“See, @MarkRobinsonMP has resorted to calling me racial slurs & spreading absolute mistruths about abortion”.

Trad continued her attack, saying she had been fighting to decriminalise abortion since she was a teenager and that her political opponent was an “extremist”.

Mr Robinson later justified using the term Jihad in another tweet that included Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath.

“Let me help educate you Jackie. The generic use of Jihad can be a struggle or mission to achieve something. Cap fits.”

The tweet added fuel to an already white-hot fire.

Trad claimed Jihad was an “Arabic terrorist label” and her opponent was specifically targeting her.

“…he hasn’t used the Arabic terrorist label for a politician of Anglo-Celtic origin, only for me. But, he’s happy to mansplain to me why this isn’t racist.”

Ms D’Ath joined in with Ms Trad in attacking Robinson for his comments, saying they were “in extreme and inappropriate”.

“We asked for a respectful debate, not personal attacks. The govt’s bill is based on reasoned consideration by the QLRC. I for one am very proud of what the Palaszczuk Govt has proposed. #respect #committoit.
